![]() ![]() ![]() And that’s pretty much what I was expecting of Arcanum.Īnd I’m pleased to say that, all in all, it’s mostly what I got. But the brilliance of it, for me, is that it’s other elements – the story, the characters and most of all, the atmosphere, immersion and ambience – transcend the jankiness of the combat and make it something that’s greater than the sum of it’s pieces. In fact, it is downright kinda janky in the gameplay department. It’s not perfect, by any means, and I do recognize it freely. It just so happens that Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is my favourite game of all time, and I pretty much replay it each year. Having not yet completed for example Baldur’s Gate 1-2 or Fallout 1-2, I pretty much lack a direct point of comparision for Arcanum, and so I experienced it and judged it on it’s own merit, as I felt it.įor me, the recommendation enough was the game being made by Troika Games. Please keep in mind that I’m not experienced in those older isometric cRPGS that much, so treat my thoughts and feelings as the ones of someone who, in the view of the more hardcore cRPG fans of old, has been „softened-up” by the more modern approach to games, in many respects. I recently played „Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura” for the first time, and I thought you might find thoughts of someone coming to a relatively older game for the first time in the end of 2020 interesting. ![]()
